If you have read some of my previous post, then you know I love me a good multi use product. I have been using shampoo bars for several months now and thought it would be fun to try making a true 2 in 1 Shampoo & Conditioner bar. To do this, I experimented with combining the Stephensons Syndopour Base, which is what I use for making my shampoo bars, along with their conditioner base in the hopes of creating a super simple to make & effective 2 in 1 bar. After some trial and error, I came up with a recipe that I am really happy with and wanted to share with you:)
Along with the bases, I chose to scent this bar with Eucalyptus & Rosemary essential oils as they have great cleansing and health properties for both your hair and scalp. I added a shimmering gold colorant to my bars for a fun little pop of color but you could definitely leave out the colorant if you prefer. This recipe could easily be doubled or tripled if you want to give them as gifts or sell them. I kept the batch size small as I was just making a few for personal use.
For This Recipe You Will Need:
To Make:
Cut 6oz of Syndopour Base and 2 oz Conditioner Base into small pieces and place in a microwave safe container. I used a shimmering gold color block to color my bars so I added in about a 1/4 tsp with my 2 bases. I find the coloring blocks which are pre colored melt and pour soap to be the easiest and most consistent way to color melt and pour bases but you could also use a mica if you prefer or leave the color out completely. If you do use mica it is best to disperse it in some isopropyl alcohol prior to adding to your base. I would also suggest waiting until you melt your base before adding in the mica.
Now heat your combined bases in the microwave in 30 second intervals until completely melted. If you prefer you could also melt this in a double boiler.
Next add in your essential oils and stir thoroughly to combine.
Once combined, pour into a silcone mold and allow to cool for 2-4 hours before removing from the mold.
To Use:
To use your 2 in 1 shampoo conditioner bar, I suggest wetting it and getting a lather going in your hands before applying to your hair. I have found that this is the best method to get a lather going when using a mixture of the two bases. Once you have a lather started, you can either apply with your hands or rub the bar directly into your hair, whichever you prefer.
I have found this bar to be great for those nights when I only have the time, or the energy, for a quick shower and they are also great for traveling as you only have one product to pack for both shampooing and conditioning and they won't spill in your luggage.
